April 24, 2026: Not long ago, a total of around 200 at Wankhede Stadium used to feel normal. Many teams chased such scores easily, and the side batting second often looked more confident. The ground has seen many big chases and attacking games where bowlers struggled. But this match felt very different. On this night, even 200 looked like a big and difficult target.

Chennai Super Kings showed full control while defending 207 runs. They did not panic at any stage and followed simple plans. Every player knew their role and executed it well. They kept building pressure and did not allow Mumbai Indians to settle. It turned into a complete team performance, where things went in Chennai’s favour from early in the game.

The match ended in a huge 103-run win for Chennai, which is now the biggest defeat by runs for Mumbai in the history of the Indian Premier League. Sanju Samson and Akeal Hosein played important roles in this result. What made the win more special was that Chennai achieved it without MS Dhoni, yet the team looked balanced and confident throughout the match.

Records and Mumbai’s Struggles

This victory also became Chennai’s biggest win ever in IPL history. Their previous best was a 97-run win against Punjab Kings in 2015. Other big wins include 93 runs against Delhi Capitals in 2014, 92 runs against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2009, and 91 runs against Delhi in 2022. On the other side, this 103-run loss went past Mumbai’s earlier worst defeat of 87 runs against Rajasthan Royals in 2013. Their other heavy losses include 85 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016, 76 runs against Punjab Kings in 2011, and 66 runs against Punjab in 2008.

Chennai also reached another important milestone with this match. They now have 19 wins against Mumbai in 40 matches, which is the highest by any team against Mumbai in IPL history. Punjab Kings are next with 18 wins, followed by Delhi Capitals with 17, Royal Challengers Bengaluru with 16, and Rajasthan Royals with 15. At the Wankhede Stadium as well, Chennai have now matched Punjab Kings with six wins each against Mumbai, which is the joint highest at this venue.

For Mumbai Indians, this match added to a worrying trend. For the first time in IPL history, they have lost three matches in a row at their home ground. They had started their season strongly by chasing 221 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders, but things have gone downhill since then. They suffered defeats against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings, and now Chennai Super Kings.

Captain Hardik Pandya and his team will now look to recover in their remaining home matches. They still have to play against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Lucknow Super Giants, and Rajasth
