D Gukesh becomes the second Indian and the youngest in the world to win the World Chess Championship title
Udaipur, December 12, 2024: D Gukesh, the 18-yr old Chess Prodigy from India, brought home the FIDE World Chess Championship title by defeating Ding Liren of the People's Republic of China. Gukesh beat Liren in the decisive Game 14 of the FIDE World Chess Championship today. He creates history by becoming the youngest ever to win the World title.
About the Game
Liren was playing playing White, while Gukesh was playing Black in the decider Game 14. The game began with Gukesh being in a stronger position, but Liren kept coming up with strong responses. This forced Gukesh to retreat his Bishop in the 13th move. In the 17th move, the tide turned in Liren's favor. The game seemed to be heading for a draw, when Liren moved his rook to f2, which was a blunder and spotted immediately by Gukesh. It boiled down to a king-and-pawn game and Liren, the defending champoin accepted defeat to Gukesh, making him the second Indian to win the World title and the youngest in the world to so.
