Former Australian cricketer David Warner admits to drinking wine before driving as new details emerge in a Sydney DUI case during his PSL 2026 stint.
March 08, 2026: Former Australian cricketer David Warner is in the news after fresh details came out in a drink-driving case in Sydney. Reports say that Warner told police he had drunk alcohol before driving. The incident happened on Easter Sunday in the eastern suburbs of the city.
According to reports, Warner said he had been drinking with a friend before getting into his vehicle. He told officers that he had three glasses of wine before trying to drive back to his home in Maroubra. During a random breath-testing check, police noticed a van stopping just before the checkpoint. They then approached the vehicle and carried out a test, which showed alcohol in his system.
Warner was later taken to Maroubra Police Station for further testing. There, he reportedly recorded a blood alcohol level of 0.104, which is more than twice the legal limit. He has now been charged with a mid-range drink-driving offence and is expected to appear in court on May 7.

Warner Continues PSL 2026 Campaign Amid Legal Case
The case has attracted attention because Warner is still active in franchise cricket. He is currently leading Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026. He had returned to Australia for a short break during the tournament and recently scored a half-century in a match in Lahore.
Warner has also been in good form in recent months. He had a strong season in the Big Bash League, where he played for Sydney Thunder and performed consistently. He remains one of Australia’s most successful batters, having scored 8786 runs in 112 Test matches. After retiring from Test cricket, he has also taken up commentary work.
If found guilty, the case could affect his career and brand value. It may also impact his professional commitments in franchise cricket. This incident adds to past controversies in his career, including the 2018 ball-tampering case.
The matter will now be heard in court next month, and more details are expected to come out as the case moves forward.
