WPL 2026: Devine Smashes Rana for Historic 32 Runs in One Over
Gujarat Giants post 80/0 in powerplay in Women’s Premier League as Delhi Capitals’ Sneh Rana concedes 32 runs in one over to Sophie Devine
Jan 12, 2026 - Delhi Capitals’ Sneh Rana created an “unwanted” record on Sunday (January 11) by conceding the most runs in a single over in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) history. She gave away 32 runs in an over against Gujarat Giants in the fourth match of WPL 2026 at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. Sophie Devine was the batter and hit Rana for two boundaries followed by four sixes.
The incident happened in the final over of the powerplay. Rana bowled short on the first two balls, and Devine hit a strong flick and a cut shot for boundaries. On the next ball, Devine stepped out and smashed a six over long-on. She then hit another six with a clean hit, followed by a slog over cow corner.
Under pressure, Rana bowled a full toss on the last ball, which Devine hit for another six.
The previous record for the most expensive over in WPL was 28 runs, conceded by Deepti Sharma against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Lucknow last season. On that day, Rana was the batter and was out on the final ball, and that over helped build her reputation as an all-rounder and boosted her India career.
With Beth Mooney at the other end, Gujarat Giants finished the powerplay at 80/0. It was the highest score in the first six overs in this season and the second-highest overall in WPL history. Devine continued her attack against Delhi Capitals’ spinners and hit three sixes in four balls off Shree Charani in the ninth over.
Devine was finally out in the 11th over after scoring 95 runs from 42 balls. Nandani Sharma bowled a slower delivery that Devine mistimed hitting it high in the air and Shree Charani took a good catch at short fine leg.
This was Devine’s second score in the 90s in the WPL. Earlier, she scored 99 while playing for RCB in 2023.
There have now been six scores of 90 or more in the WPL, but no player has scored a century so far.
