China’s Zhihui Hou, who took Gold at the Tokyo Olympics two days back, relegating India’s Mirabai Chanu to a Silver, is facing a Dope test, after adverse analytical findings.

If the dope test delivers a positive result, then Mirabai may be on her way to India’s FIRST GOLD at the Tokyo Olympics and a historic first for India in the Weightlifting Sport at Olympics.

That the Dope test will happen has been confirmed as per sources since Hou has been asked to stay back at Tokyo, where anti-doping authorities will conduct the tests. If Hou fails the test, it will be Gold for Mirabai. Hou had lifted 210kg in the 49kg category and created a new Olympic record, while Chanu took a Silver after a successful 202kg lift, which was a combination of 89kg in snatch and 115kg in clean and jerk.

Windy Cantika Aisah of Indonesia, who took Bronze with a 194kg lift shall be awarded a Silver.

On Saturday, Mirabai Chanu became the second lifter from India to take an Olympic medal, the first being Karnam Malleswari who took Bronze in the 69kg category at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. 2000 Olumpics was the first time that weightlifting was opened for women.
