BCCI to Begin Search for New Sponsor, ‘Surya Brigade’ Likely to Face More Difficulties in Asia Cup
Udaipur, Aug 25, 2025: Dream11 has told the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that they will not be the main sponsor of the Indian cricket team anymore. Because of this, the Indian team may play the Asia Cup, starting on 9 September, without a main sponsor.
The reason is that the Online Gaming Promotion and Regulation Bill 2025 was passed in the Rajya Sabha last Thursday. After this, all online gaming apps have been banned. This ban has also affected Dream11, which was the main sponsor of the Indian team. In 2023, Dream11 signed a contract worth ₹358 crore with BCCI for three years.
Since then, the name of Dream11 has been written on the jerseys of the Indian men’s, women’s and Under-19 teams. A BCCI official said,
“After the bill was passed, the main sponsor officially informed us about ending the contract. Our team is working on it. Finding a new sponsor is also part of the process, but there is very little time left before the Asia Cup. There are many legal steps in this process, and it takes time. This is a completely different situation.”
The Contract Was Till 2026
If the Indian National Cricket Team does not find a new sponsor before the Asia Cup, they will have to play the tournament without a title sponsor. The contract with Dream11 was for three years and was to run till 2026.
Dream11 is also one of the sponsors of IPL. Another online fantasy game app, My11Circle, also had a contract with BCCI.
In 2024, IPL signed a deal of ₹625 crore with My11Circle for five seasons. That means BCCI is getting ₹125 crore every year from the company. Only two seasons have finished, and three seasons are still left. But now a new sponsor will also have to be found for that deal. However, this will not be a big problem because there is still enough time left.
Potential Sponsors
The BCCI may well be looking at Tata Groups, Adani, Reliance as conglomerate sponsors or looking at other platforms like Zerodha, Groww among others. Mahindra and Toyota or FMCG sponsores may also join the bid.
