Duleep Trophy 2025 | Patidar & Parag Lead Central & East Zone | Jurel & Easwaran Out

Udaipur, Aug 28, 2025: The Indian domestic season started today with the Duleep Trophy. This time the tournament is being played in the zonal format. The matches are North Zone vs East Zone and Central Zone vs North East Zone. Central Zone captain Dhruv Jurel and East Zone captain Abhimanyu Easwaran are not playing in the first round of the Duleep Trophy. Both captains are not fully fit yet.

According to a TOI report, "Jurel had a back injury before the match and the selectors told him to stay out of this match. He is also on standby for the Asia Cup team and does not want to take any risk. India will play four Test matches at home right after the Asia Cup. Because of Rishabh Pant's injury, Jurel has been asked not to take any risk."

England Tour

The Indian team recently returned from the England tour. The 5-match Test series ended in a 2-2 draw. Abhimanyu Easwaran was part of the Indian Test team on this tour but did not play any match. He was made the captain of East Zone because Ishan Kishan is injured.

But Easwaran got the flu before the first match. This is a big setback for him. He had a good chance to prove himself. Easwaran has been in the Indian squad many times but has not made his debut yet. So, he was eager to score runs in this tournament.

Patidar is Captain

In Jurel’s absence, Madhya Pradesh player Rajat Patidar is captain of Central Zone. Patidar also led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to win the IPL 2025 title and ended their long wait for a trophy. East Zone is captained by all-rounder Riyan Parag, who also captained Rajasthan Royals earlier this year.
