Udaipur, Nov 15, 2025: Team India began the second day of the Eden Test with both relief and concern. On the second morning, captain Shubman Gill left the field with pain at the back of his neck. That was a worrying sign. But there was also good news — Rishabh Pant has fully recovered from his injury and is back in top form.

The day started with patience from the two unbeaten batsmen from the previous day, Washington Sundar and KL Rahul. It looked like they would build a strong partnership after handling the early pressure from the South African pacers. But Sundar soon became the victim of Harmer’s sharp turn.

Sundar, who came into bat at number 3 for the first time, scored 29 runs off 82 balls. On Eden’s spinning pitch, it was not a bad effort. But after Sundar returned to the pavilion, India suffered a major setback.

Captain Gill Leaves the Field Injured

Captain Shubman Gill, who was in good form, left the field with an injury after facing only 3 balls. He looked confident and even hit a clean boundary. But soon after, he felt pain near his neck. With that pain, he had to walk off the field. Team India now hopes that the captain’s injury is not serious.

Pant Returns in Style

Vice-captain Rishabh Pant came into bat after Gill and played with full confidence. It didn’t look like he was returning to Test cricket after a long break. Pant also set a new record by hitting a huge six off Keshav Maharaj.

Pant now holds the record for the most sixes in Tests by an Indian. He hit 91 sixes. Earlier, this record belonged to Virender Sehwag with 90 sixes. Rohit Sharma is next with 88.

South African bowlers wrapped up the Indian innings for 189 and later met with a similar fate like in their first innings. The second day ended with South Africa reeling at 93 for the loss of 7 wickets. With the three days to go, India seem to have the upper hand.  South Africa is leading by 63 runs, but India's win probability is 91% as against 8% for South Africa. Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav were the pick of the bowlers for India on day 2.
