England Clinch Thriller, Beat India by 22 Runs in Third Test

India’s chase of 193 ends at 170 as England seal dramatic win on Day 5; Jadeja remains unbeaten on 61 but runs out of partners

 |

July 15 ,2025 - India and England gave fans the kind of close cricket that is expected in a Test match at a historic ground like Lord's. On the last day, both teams were almost equal in the race to win. In the end, the home team showed better luck, good planning, and strong fight. England won the third Test match by 22 runs.

India needed 193 runs to win. But batting on the Lord's pitch in the last two days was very difficult. As expected, it was not easy to score runs. After a tough fight, India could only score 170 runs.

With this win, England has taken a 2-1 lead in the five-match Test series. On the final day, England’s bowlers did not allow the match to go long. They quickly took the remaining Indian wickets and won the match.

Pant and Rahul Depart Early

India started the day with 58 runs for the loss of four wickets. KL Rahul was on 33 runs and Rishabh Pant was at the other end. But Pant was bowled by Jofra Archer after scoring only 9 runs. Rahul was then out LBW to Ben Stokes. He made 39 runs with six fours in 58 balls. Archer also took a brilliant catch off his own bowling to dismiss Washington Sundar.

Jadeja and Reddy GiveHope

After that, Ravindra Jadeja and Nitish Kumar Reddy stayed at the crease for some time and gave India a little hope. But this did not last long. Chris Woakes broke the partnership by dismissing Reddy when the team score was 112. Reddy scored 13 runs from 53 balls.

Jadeja and Bumrah Fight Hard

Then Bumrah came to support Jadeja. They added 35 runs together and tried to take India closer to the target. Bumrah was defending well while Jadeja was scoring runs. The score reached 147. But then Bumrah played a pull shot off Stokes and Cook, placed as an extra fielder, caught the ball. After that, it became very hard for India to win.

Siraj Tries but is Unlucky

Siraj came in and supported Jadeja. This partnership again gave England some trouble. Siraj was also batting with confidence. But luck was not on India’s side. Siraj defended a ball from Shoaib Bashir, but it hit the bat, bounced on the ground, and then hit the stumps. That was India’s last wicket.

Jadeja remained not out on 61. He fought hard but could not win the match. He played 181 balls and hit four fours and one six.

Bowlers Strong on Day 4

In the first innings, both India and England scored 387 runs each. India’s innings ended on the third day, and England played just one over that day. On Day 4, England started at 2/0. But the Indian bowlers did not let them score much. From Day 4, the pitch had become hard for batting.

Siraj took the wickets of Ben Duckett (12) and Ollie Pope (4). Reddy dismissed Jack Crawley (22). Akash got Harry Brook (23) out. Then Joe Root and Ben Stokes made a good partnership of 67 runs. But Sundar broke that by getting Root out for 40. Sundar also took the wicket of Jamie Smith (8). Bumrah dismissed Brydon Carse (1) and Chris Woakes (10). Stokes, who scored 33, was also out to Sundar. Sundar ended the England innings by getting Shoaib Bashir out. England were all out for 192.

India’s Batting Struggles

Indian batters tried not to lose wickets, but England bowled well. India lost four wickets before the day ended. Yashasvi Jaiswal was out for 0 by Archer. Karun Nair got out after scoring 14 runs. He was dismissed by Carse, who also took the wicket of Shubman Gill. India sent Akash as nightwatchman. He scored just 1 run from 11 balls and was bowled by Stokes. This ended Day 4.
