England Name Edgbaston XI — Edge for India

Indian camp must be relieved because one dangerous bowler, who could have troubled India’s inexperienced batting line-up, is not in the playing XI

July 1, 2025 - England, who won the Headingley Test match, has announced its playing XI for the second Test match to be played at Edgbaston from July 2. Seeing this team, the Indian camp must be a bit relieved because one dangerous bowler, who could have troubled India’s inexperienced batting line-up, is not in the playing XI.

England already has a 1-0 lead in the five-match Test series. By winning the second match, they would look to increase their lead and move closer to winning the series. If England wins this match, they will need to win just one more game to seal the series.

This Bowler is Not Included

When England announced their squad for the second Test match, Jofra Archer was included. It was expected that Archer would play in the second match. However, on Monday, June 30, when the England and Wales Cricket Board revealed the playing XI, Archer's name was missing. Earlier, it was reported that Archer had left the team owing to a family emergency but would return before the second Test. So, fans and experts thought he might play, but now that hope is over.

No Changes Made

England has made no changes to their team. They have gone with the same playing XI that won the match at Headingley. While Team India may feel some relief because of Archer’s absence, defeating this England team will still be a tough task. The English team is full of confidence and momentum.

England’s Playing XI:

Ben Stokes (captain), Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jamie Smith (wicketkeeper), Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue and Shoaib Bashir.
