England Announce Complete Squad for India T20I Series; James Coles Earns Maiden Call-Up
England have announced a 17-member squad for the five-match T20I series against India, starting July 1. Harry Brook will captain the side, while uncapped all-rounder James Coles earns his first senior call-up after strong domestic and Lions performances.
June 22, 2026: England have announced a 17-member squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against India, with Harry Brook appointed as captain. The squad brings a mix of experienced players and fresh faces, as England look to balance continuity with new talent ahead of a busy international schedule.
Uncapped all-rounder James Coles has received his maiden senior call-up. His selection comes after strong performances for England Lions and consistent displays in domestic T20 competitions as well as leagues overseas over the past year. Selectors believe he has shown the skill and temperament needed at the international level.
Jordan Cox, Sonny Baker, and Saqib Mahmood have been recalled to the squad after missing out on England’s 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup team. Their return adds depth in both batting and bowling departments. On the other hand, Brydon Carse and Jamie Overton are unavailable due to injury concerns, which has opened the door for other players to step in.
Marcus North, England Men’s National Selector, said James Coles has earned his place through consistent performances and development over the past 12 months. He also explained that the squad has been kept larger than usual due to scheduling, as the series comes shortly after England’s Test series against New Zealand. This gives the team flexibility in player selection throughout the series.
Squad Balance and Selection Approach
England’s squad shows a clear focus on balance across all departments. The team includes strong batting options like Jos Buttler, Phil Salt, Tom Banton, and Harry Brook, while all-round strength comes from players such as Sam Curran, Will Jacks, and Jacob Bethell. The bowling unit is also well covered with Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Saqib Mahmood, and Luke Wood providing variety in pace and spin.
The selectors have also ensured there is backup for almost every role, which will help England manage workload across five matches in a short period. The inclusion of younger players like James Coles and Sonny Baker also shows England’s intent to build depth for future tournaments.
