Udaipur, May 10, 2025: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has offered to host the rest of the postponed IPL if India agrees. The Guardian in the UK reported that ECB CEO Richard Gould spoke to the BCCI secretary about this offer.

The 18th edition of the IPL was postponed for a week on Friday due to the ongoing India-Pakistan tensions. With both domestic and foreign cricketers sent home, it seems unlikely that the tournament will start soon. The ECB mentioned that the IPL could be hosted in England as early as September this year.

India has carried out several attacks on Pakistan since last Tuesday, blaming Pakistan for the Pahalgam attack in April. Pakistan has retaliated. Both Pakistan’s PSL and India’s IPL were postponed on Friday amid these counter-attacks.

The six-team PSL has eight matches left, while the 10-team IPL has 16 matches remaining. After the tournament was suspended for a week, the BCCI asked all teams to go home. Many foreign players have already started leaving India. In this situation, it seems unlikely that the IPL will restart after just one week. Also, due to the ongoing tension with Pakistan, it is not clear when the tournament will end.

According to The Guardian report, the ECB CEO has offered help to the BCCI. If India is unable to restart the IPL after a week, England has shown interest in hosting the rest of the tournament later this year. An ECB source said that September could be a possible time to host it. However, the source also added that there are no “active talks” at the moment about moving the IPL to the UK.

The ECB had made a similar offer to India in 2021. At that time, the IPL was postponed in India due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the tournament was later completed in the United Arab Emirates.
