October 03, 2025: The 2026 FIFA World Cup™ now has its official match ball. On Thursday in Mexico City, Adidas showcased the Trionda, a ball that stands for the unity of the three host nations — Mexico, United States, and Canada. It also has the most advanced technology ever used in international football.
The ball, called "Trionda", was made by German company Adidas, which has made every World Cup ball since 1970. “I am happy and proud to present the Trionda,” said FIFA president Gianni Infantino at the event in New York on Thursday, Oct 2, 2025.
Design and Symbolism
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the first to be hosted by three countries, with 48 teams taking part. The ball’s name and design are inspired by this. It features red, blue, and green colors, along with symbols from each nation — a maple leaf for Canada, an eagle for Mexico, and stars for the United States. A triangle shape in the design shows the unity of the three hosts.
The colors are accented with gold to represent the FIFA World Cup trophy. Each arm of the design is linked to one host nation, and they come together at the center of the ball in the form of a triangle.
Technology and Features
The ball has deep seams for better flight stability and embossed icons to improve grip in wet or humid weather. A motion sensor chip inside the ball tracks its movement and sends data to the VAR system. This helps referees make faster decisions on offsides and handballs.
The chip sends signals 500 times per second to anchor points around the stadium, recording every interaction between the ball and the players. The ball is made of four panels, with one holding the chip and the others acting as a counterbalance. This is different from the 2022 World Cup ball, which had its chip in the middle.
Ticket sales for the 2026 tournament have already started, with over 4.5 million fans from 216 countries joining the presale draw. The World Cup will be held from June 11 to July 19, and the draw will take place in Washington on December 5.
