Udaipur, Aug 6, 2025: Former Indian captain and ex-BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is ready to return to cricket administration once again. This time, he may take the post of President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) again. Ganguly confirmed to India Today that he will complete his nomination process before the CAB Annual General Meeting (AGM), which is scheduled on September 20, 2025.

6 years hiatus

Sourav Ganguly is set to return as the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) after six years. His return comes after his elder brother and current CAB President, Snehasish Ganguly, became ineligible for the post because of tenure rules under the Lodha Committee reforms.

With no major opponent in the election, Ganguly is likely to be elected unopposed. The CAB has already started preparing for the election process. An emergency Apex Council meeting was held recently, and the final council meeting will be on August 14. After that, the nomination process and other formalities will be completed.

Previous Tenure and Experience

Ganguly was CAB President from 2015 to 2019. After the death of Jagmohan Dalmiya, his brother Snehasish Ganguly became the president. During his first term, Ganguly worked on improving Bengal cricket, upgrading infrastructure, and focusing on coaching and player development. Because of these efforts, Bengal became a strong team in domestic tournaments like the Ranji Trophy.

Later, Ganguly also served as BCCI President from 2019 to 2022. During that time, he started the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, promoted women’s cricket, and organized the Women’s T20 Challenge, which later led to the Women’s Premier League (WPL). The BCCI also signed a record IPL media rights deal worth ₹48,000 crore for 2023–2027 under his leadership.

With his experience at both state and national levels, Ganguly’s return as CAB President is expected to bring new growth and stability to Bengal cricket.
