IND vs ENG: Gill and Stokes Express Concern Over Short Gaps Between Test Matches
There was a one-week break between the first Test at Leeds and the third Test at Lord's. But there was only a three-day gap between the second and third, and again between the fourth and fifth matches.
July 31, 2025: England captain Ben Stokes and India captain Shubman Gill expressed concerns over the short three-day gaps between Test matches in their recent series.
They pointed out that this limited recovery time is detrimental, especially for bowlers who have a heavy workload. While there were one-week breaks between some matches, the inconsistent scheduling hindered player recovery.
Stokes suggested a more balanced approach with five-day gaps between all matches for better flow, while Gill highlighted the intensity of the series, noting that all matches extended to the final day. Although both players acknowledged a longer break would aid recovery, they noted it could extend the tour length.
