Udaipur, April 22, 2025: It felt like Gujarat Titans were 20-25 runs short at the end of Shubman Gill's innings at Eden Gardens today. After the opening pair put on 114 runs in 12.2 overs, it was disappointing that they couldn’t double the score by the end of the innings. Gujarat finished with 198 runs for 3 wickets, failing to reach 200. However, this total was enough for them. Gujarat retained the top spot after defeating the hosts, Kolkata Knight Riders, by 39 runs.
KKRs Batting Struggles in the Chase
Kolkata Knight Riders were restricted to 159 for 8 in 20 overs while chasing. Except for captain Ajinkya Rahane, no other batsman could score big. After losing the first wicket for just 2 runs, Rahane came to the crease and scored 50 runs from 36 balls. When he got out in the 13th over, Kolkata still needed 108 runs from 45 balls.
Russell Tried, But Rashid Closed the Doors
Andre Russell came in and scored 17 runs from his first 10 balls, giving some hope to Kolkata fans. But Gujarat's leg-spinner Rashid Khan ended all chances in the 16th over. Russell managed to hit only one four in the first four balls, but could not read the other deliveries. He was stumped on the fifth ball while trying to attack.
Prasidh’s Deadly Over Seals Win
In the next over, Prasidh Krishna took two more wickets in just three balls, pushing Kolkata to 119 for 7. Only Rinku Singh was still at the crease, but his 17 runs from 14 balls were not enough to change the match result.
Gujarat's two best bowlers were Prasidh Krishna and Rashid Khan. Both took 2 wickets each and gave away only 25 runs in their four overs.
Gill and Sudarshan Set Up the Win
Earlier, Gujarat Titans batted first after losing the toss. Their start was slow, scoring just 45 runs in the first six overs of the power-play. But Shubman Gill and Sai Sudarshan added 68 runs in the next six overs to speed things up.
Sudarshan got out on the second ball of the 13th over after scoring 52 runs from 36 balls.
Gill Misses Century, Buttler Unbeaten
Shubman Gill missed his century by just 10 runs. He was out for 90 runs from 55 balls, caught at cow corner while trying to hit a six off a full toss from Vaibhav Arora. Gill hit 10 fours and 3 sixes in his fine innings. Jos Buttler, who shared a 58-run stand with Gill for the second wicket, stayed unbeaten on 41 runs from 23 balls. He hit 8 fours but no sixes.
