May 31, 2025 - Gujarat Titans' wicketkeeper-batsman Kusal Mendis had a very bad IPL debut. While chasing the target against Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator match of IPL 2025, he got out hit wicket. He became the third player to be out hit wicket in this season.
Gujarat Titans played against Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator match of IPL 2025. After winning the toss, Mumbai Indians chose to bat first. Gujarat made two changes in their playing XI. Mendis replaced Jos Buttler, and Washington Sundar came in place of Arshad Khan.
Mendis’ Disappointing Debut
Mendis made his IPL debut, but it was not a good one. While fielding, he dropped two easy catches, including those of Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav. Later, when he came to bat, he got out hit wicket.
Mendis Out Hit Wicket
In the seventh over of Gujarat’s innings, Mendis’s foot hit the stumps off a short ball from Mitchell Santner, and he was declared hit wicket. The Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batsman scored 20 runs off 10 balls before returning to the pavilion. This was the third hit wicket dismissal of the season.
Third Hit Wicket This IPL Season
This is only the third time a player has been out hit wicket in IPL 2025. Earlier this month, Krunal Pandya was out hit wicket in a league match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Before that, Abhinav Manohar also got out hit wicket in this season.
