March 10, 2026: The Gujarat Titans have appointed former Australian opener Matthew Hayden as their batting coach ahead of the Indian Premier League 2026 season. The franchise confirmed the news on Tuesday.
Hayden is a two-time ICC Cricket World Cup winner and one of the most successful openers of his time. He brings a lot of international experience and strong knowledge of modern T20 batting. His addition will strengthen the coaching staff of Gujarat Titans as the 2022 champions prepare for the new season.
Director of Cricket Vikram Solanki said Haydenâs appointment is important for the team at this stage. He said the franchise always wants to improve and build a strong cricket system. Solanki added that Haydenâs experience and his ability to guide young players will help the team develop a strong batting style in the coming seasons.

Hayden Excited to Join Gujarat Titans
Hayden also shared his excitement about joining the team. He said good batting puts pressure on the opponent, but great batting controls the game. He added that this is the standard he wants the Gujarat Titans batting group to follow.
During his international career with Australia national cricket team, Hayden played 273 matches and scored more than 15,000 runs across formats. He was known for his aggressive and powerful batting style, especially in the powerplay overs.
Hayden also played in the IPL for Chennai Super Kings from 2008 to 2010. In 32 matches, he scored 1,107 runs with an average of 36.90 and a strike rate of 137.52. His best season came in 2009 when he won the Orange Cap after scoring 572 runs.
In 2010, he became famous for using the special âMongooseâ bat. One of his best innings was 93 runs from 43 balls against Delhi Capitals (then known as Delhi Daredevils). He also helped Chennai Super Kings win their first IPL title in 2010.
