July 22, 2026: England batter Joe Root has climbed back into the top 10 of the ICC Men's ODI Batting Rankings for the first time in five years following his impressive performances in the recently concluded ODI series against India. The latest rankings also brought encouraging news for India, with Rohit Sharma moving closer to teammate Virat Kohli after his superb century at Lord's.
England's series victory over India has resulted in several significant changes across the ICC ODI rankings, with both English and Indian players making notable gains.
England Stars Make Big Gains in ICC ODI Rankings
Joe Root played a key role in England's first bilateral ODI series win over India since 2018. The experienced right-hander remained unbeaten in all three matches, scoring 76, 99 and 74, which helped him climb four places to eighth in the ICC ODI batting rankings.
The rise marks Root's return to the top 10 ODI batters for the first time since 2020, highlighting his consistency and continued importance to England's batting line-up.
England opener Ben Duckett was another major mover in the rankings. He jumped 11 places to joint-19th after producing one of the finest innings of the series. Duckett's brilliant 141 at Lord's guided England to victory and became the highest individual score in a Men's ODI at the iconic venue.

Indian Batters Climb as Bowling Rankings Also See Changes
India also had several positives in the latest ICC rankings. Rohit Sharma's magnificent 138-run innings at Lord's helped him reduce the gap to Virat Kohli to just nine rating points in the ODI batting rankings.
Meanwhile, Shubman Gill retained his second position and remains only one rating point behind New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell, who continues to lead the ODI batting rankings with 802 rating points.
Shreyas Iyer also made progress, moving up two places to 13th after scoring 66 runs in the second ODI at Cardiff.
The latest rankings also reflected performances from the ODI series between New Zealand and the West Indies.
New Zealand spinner Mitchell Santner climbed from seventh to fourth in the ODI bowling rankings after returning figures of 2/15 and 2/36 in the third and fourth ODIs.
West Indies left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie also enjoyed a significant rise, jumping seven places to joint-ninth after claiming an outstanding 5/49 in the fourth ODI.
New Zealand all-rounder Michael Bracewell gained 14 places to 29th in the ODI batting rankings. He also moved up two spots to third in the ICC ODI all-rounders' rankings following his consistent performances.
In the ICC Men's T20I Player Rankings, Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan reached a career-best 20th position after finishing as the leading run-scorer in Bangladesh's 2-1 T20I series victory over Zimbabwe.
The latest ICC rankings underline the impact of recent international performances, with several players strengthening their positions ahead of a busy period of ODI and T20I cricket.
