January 13, 2026: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has clearly told the Bangladesh Cricket Board that there will be no change in the schedule or venues of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Bangladesh had asked to move their matches outside India. According to the ICC’s independent risk assessment, done by internationally recognised security experts, there is no specific threat to the Bangladesh team in India. The overall security risk has been rated as low to moderate.

It is important to clarify that the ICC’s independent risk assessments do not say that Bangladesh cannot play its scheduled matches in India,” an ICC source was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

The overall security risk for the tournament in India has been assessed as low to moderate, which is similar to many major international sporting events,” the source added.

ICC confident about security arrangements

The source further added that the ICC has full confidence in the BCCI and the local authorities. The governing body believes there is no major concern regarding the security of Bangladesh players and officials.

The ICC has full confidence in the security plans being prepared in close coordination with the BCCI and the relevant local authorities, who have a strong record of successfully hosting major international sporting events,” the source said.

BCB’s request and ICC’s firm stand

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had formally requested a venue change due to player safety concerns. This came after tensions related to Mustafizur Rahman’s release from the IPL earlier this season. However, with less than a month remaining before the World Cup, the ICC has made it clear that teams must follow the confirmed schedule and travel plans.

Tamim Iqbal urges caution

Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal reacted cautiously to the situation. He warned against taking a strict stand, saying it could affect Bangladesh cricket in the long run.

Decisions taken today will have an impact even ten years from now. So, decisions should be made by thinking about what is best for Bangladesh cricket and its players. Whatever the final decision is, I only hope that Bangladesh cricket’s interests are placed above everything else, and that the future of the game in the country is carefully considered,” Tamim was quoted as saying by Firstpost.
