"I Wanted to Take the Game Deep' - Captain Gill on How India Prevented an English Win
Talking about Bumrah’s injury, Gill said, "We will have to wait and see how ready he is."
After the match, Gill said, "I am very happy with the batting effort. We were under a lot of pressure for the last few days. On the fifth day, the pitch was doing something. Every ball was important. I wanted to play ball by ball and take the game deep, just like we had planned."
Talking about the handshake, Gill said that Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar were close to scoring centuries, so they deserved a chance to get it.
Team’s fighting spirit
Gill said, "Every match goes on till the last session of the last day. I got to learn a lot. As a team, we also learned many things. It doesn’t matter how many runs you have scored before. Whenever you play a Test match, there is always some nervousness. This shows how much I care about playing for the country."
The Indian captain added, "We had scored well in the first innings. Many of our batsmen were set, and on these wickets, it was important for the set batsmen to play long. Sadly, that didn’t happen. But I am happy with how we played in the second innings."
