India Win Double Gold at Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships with Men's and Women's Team Titles
India produced a dominant display at the Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships in New Delhi, defeating Malaysia to win both the men's and women's team gold medals. The victories provide a major confidence boost ahead of the Asian Games.
July 31, 2026: India enjoyed a memorable day at the Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships in New Delhi, winning gold medals in both the men's and women's team events. Although table tennis is not part of this year's Commonwealth Games, the championships were held alongside the Glasgow Games schedule. India faced Malaysia in both finals and emerged victorious, winning 3-2 in the men's final and 3-0 in the women's final.
The women's team produced a dominant performance at the Thyagaraj Stadium. Swastika Ghosh gave India the perfect start by defeating Ai Shin T 11-7, 11-2, 9-11, 11-9. Sreeja Akula then extended India's lead with a hard-fought 9-11, 11-6, 11-4, 5-11, 11-3 victory over Karen Anak. In the third match, Yashaswini Ghorpade sealed the title with a 7-11, 11-3, 17-15, 11-5 win against Alice Lee. Although Sutirtha Mukherjee and Cinderella Das were part of the squad, they did not feature in the final.
Men Fight Back to Clinch Thrilling Victory
The men's final proved to be a much tougher contest. Manav Thakkar and Manush Shah gave India an early 2-0 lead by defeating Javen Chung and Qiu Shen Wong respectively. However, Malaysia fought back strongly, with G Sathiyan and later Manav Thakkar losing their matches, allowing the scores to level at 2-2.
With the title on the line, Manush Shah delivered an outstanding performance in the deciding match. He defeated Javen Chung in straight games 11-7, 11-4, 11-4, securing a 3-2 victory for India and completing a memorable double gold for the host nation.

The triumph was especially satisfying for the Indian women's team. At the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, India had won the men's team gold but the women's team suffered a quarter-final defeat against Malaysia. This victory helped India settle that score and finish on top.
India's head coach Sourav Chakraborty praised the team's performance and highlighted the importance of the victory.
"Many of the players in this team are quite young. Winning the Commonwealth championship with them is a very positive sign. This victory will give the team a lot of confidence ahead of the Asian Games," he said.
Following the team events, the focus will now shift to the singles and doubles competitions, which begin on Friday. With both team titles already secured, the Indian paddlers will be aiming to add more medals and continue their impressive run at the Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships.
