Indian men’s and women’s lacrosse teams win historic double gold at Asian Championship 2026; Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya honours players and boosts Olympic hopes
Udaipur, March 28, 2026 - Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya felicitated the players of the Indian lacrosse team at his residence for their historic gold medal victories in both Men’s and Women’s categories at the Asian Lacrosse Games held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
During the ceremony, the Minister said that through hard work, discipline and determination, both the Indian Men’s and Women’s national teams secured titles at the 2026 Asian Lacrosse Championship.
He stressed that this achievement is not just a victory but a powerful message for the youth of the country. With lacrosse now included in the 2028 Summer Olympics, this double triumph will act as a spark for India’s growing global success in the sport. He also discussed India’s participation and potential in the Olympics.
The Minister appreciated the international success of the Indian lacrosse team and the efforts of the federation. He assured full government support for the development of lacrosse, including training facilities and resources for athletes under national sports policies.
Officials from the Lacrosse Federation of India including Imran Lari, Dr Ganga Dharaiya, Saurabh Vetal, Shahzad Khan, team captain Sunita Meena, Anudeep Reddy, coach Neeraj Batra, Shakeel Khan and Rajpal Redu were present at the event.
Union Minister of State for AYUSH Prataprao Jadhav, Udaipur MP Mannalal Rawat and Sports Authority of India (SAI) president Raksha Khadse also welcomed and felicitated the teams.
