India vs Australia 2nd T20I: Australia Beat India in Melbourne to Take 1-0 Series Lead
Batting first, only Abhishek and Harshit Rana played well against the Australian bowlers
Udaipur, Oct 31, 2025: Team India struggled in Melbourne. The team could not play the full 20 overs. The target for Australia was only 126 runs. Bumrah bowled well in the end, but it was too late. Australia achieved the target in just 13 overs, losing 6 wickets.
Australian captain Mitchell Marsh won the toss and chose to field first. There was one change in the Australian team — Matt Short came in for Josh Phillipe. The Indian team remained the same.
Batting first, only Abhishek and Harshit Rana played well against the Australian bowlers. Without them, the Indian scorecard looked very weak. Team India was all out for just 125 runs with 8 balls left.
Aussie openers dominated the chase
In front of a small target, Australian openers Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head started strong. They scored runs quickly in the powerplay. Even Bumrah was not spared, giving away 18 runs in one over. After him, Harshit also gave 20 runs in an over. Australia crossed 50 runs within just four overs.
India fought back, but the effort came too late
Varun Chakravarthy gave India their first breakthrough. Head got out for 28 runs while trying to hit a big shot. Even after his wicket, Australia kept scoring fast. Marsh and Josh Inglis were adding about 12 runs per over. Marsh was later dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav for 46 runs, but by then, the damage was already done. His innings included 2 fours and 4 sixes, and when he got out, Australia had already reached 87 runs in 8 overs.
Tim David was bowled by Varun Chakravarthy for just 1 run, and Australia lost 3 wickets for 90 runs. But Indian bowlers could not put up much fight with such a small total. In the end, Bumrah took two wickets in quick succession, but it was too late. Australia chased the small target easily, losing 6 wickets.
With this win, Australia took a 1-0 lead in the five-match T20 series. The third match between the two teams will be played on Sunday.
