January 21, 2025 – The controversies plaguing the upcoming 2025 ICC Champions Trophy are refusing to die down what with a new one raising its head now. India has reportedly objected to “Pakistan” being printed on Team India’s jersey. Even though India will play all its games in Dubai, UAE, Pakistan is the official host nation of the games.

A Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official has reportedly accused the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) of bringing “politics in cricket”.

"BCCI is bringing politics into cricket, which is not at all good for the game. They refused to travel to Pakistan. They don't want to send their captain (to Pakistan) for the opening ceremony, now there are reports that they don't want the host nation's (Pakistan) name printed on their jersey. We believe that the world governing body (ICC) will not let this happen and support Pakistan," the PCB official told a news agency.

As per reports, earlier the Indian board had also refused to send Indian team captain Rohit Sharma to Pakistan for the Captains' Meet which is a curtain-raiser event for the games.

Readers may recall the months of intense negotiations and the back-and-forth between the International Cricket Council (ICC), PCB and BCCI over the venue of the championships with India refusing to play in Pakistan. Finally, a hybrid-model was accepted whereby India will play all its games in Dubai. This new agreement, however, will prevent PCB from sending its team to India for ICC events in the future as well.
