July 22, 2025: The controversy surrounding the cancellation of the highly anticipated India vs Pakistan match in the World Champions of Legends continues to escalate. Organizers informed the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) that they were unable to host the match and clarified that the Indian team bore no responsibility for the cancellation. Prior to the match, WCL had officially announced the cancellation, with reports suggesting that several former Indian players declined to participate.

Cancelled Amid Tensions

After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April 2025, political and border tensions between the two countries increased. Because of this, Indian players refused to play the match against Pakistan.

According to WCL sources, the organizers told the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) that they could not host the match. WCL also said that the Indian team was not responsible for the cancellation.

Pakistan Refuses to Share Points

The Pakistan Champions team has refused to share points with India. They believe the match was cancelled because India stepped back. A WCL source shared this with news agency ANI. However, WCL has clearly said that the organizers were not able to conduct the match, and it was not the Indian team's fault.

Former Indian players like Suresh Raina and Shikhar Dhawan had confirmed earlier that they would not take part in the match. Dhawan even shared a screenshot of his email to the organizers on his X account.

In the last edition of the WCL, India had beaten Pakistan in the final by 5 wickets. Dhawan also posted, "I still stand by my decision on May 11. My country is everything to me, and nothing is above it."
