IND vs PAK: Suryakumar Yadav Finally Speaks on ‘No Handshake’ Controversy, Reveals Who Took the Call
Sept 15, 2025: After the win against Pakistan in the Asia Cup on Sunday, the Indian team refused to shake hands with the opposition. On this, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav said it was a collective decision, supported by the team management and the BCCI. He added that it was not a momentary decision.
At the end of the India-Pakistan match, as soon as captain Suryakumar Yadav finished the game with a six, he turned towards the dugout and walked away without looking at the opponent players.
Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha lined up his teammates for the traditional handshake and even walked halfway towards the Indian dugout, but the Indian team did not respond.
Suryakumar Yadav Explains the Decision
In the post-match press conference, Suryakumar Yadav said: "It was a team decision. We only came to play. We responded to them. Some things are beyond sportsmanship. The decision to not change the team sheet was also taken by an important staff member, who is very clear about his stance on matters related to Pakistan. But the decision not to shake hands was definitely supported by the BCCI. We are united with our government and the BCCI."
Pakistan’s Reaction
The Pakistani captain did not attend the presentation ceremony after the match. Pakistan coach Mike Hesson said the incident of not shaking hands had surely increased bitterness.
"We wanted to shake hands but the opposition didn’t do that. We are disappointed with the way we played, but we wanted to show respect. Salman not coming to the post-match presentation was definitely a result of what happened", Hesson added.
