February 19, 2026: The match was officially a formality, but the relatively weaker Netherlands team gave India a tough fight. Suryakumar Yadav’s side had already secured a place in the Super Eights, yet today’s victory margin was smaller compared to the commanding win against Pakistan. Despite this, India remains unbeaten in the 2024 T20 World Cup, maintaining their status as the team to beat. The Men in Blue have yet to lose a single match in the tournament, with India’s campaign in the group stage running like a well-oiled machine.

Shivam Dube Leads India’s Batting Revival

The eight teams for the Super Eights had already been confirmed before the India vs Netherlands match on Wednesday evening. Although it was a formal match in terms of standings, the Dutch team, despite being eliminated, tried their best to make it memorable. India won the toss, and captain Suryakumar Yadav decided to bat first.

The start, however, was far from ideal. Abhishek Sharma continued his poor form and returned for a duck, while Ishan Kishan, who had been explosive in the first three matches, also failed to score, dismissed by Indian-origin Dutch bowler Aryan Dutt. Tilak Verma and Suryakumar’s innings offered little resistance, and by the 14th over, India had lost four wickets for just 110 runs, leaving the team under significant pressure.

At this crucial moment, Shivam Dube emerged as the hero, playing a devastating innings of 66 runs off just 31 balls. His aggressive stroke play brought life back into the Indian innings. Hardik Pandya also contributed with a quick 30, but despite their efforts, India could not post a 200-plus target against the Netherlands.

The Dutch, chasing a target of 194, started cautiously with Michael Levitt and Max O’Dead adopting a slow, measured approach. However, no batter could stabilize the innings or build a meaningful partnership. Varun Chakravarty turned the game in India’s favor with a brilliant spell, taking 3 wickets for just 14 runs in three overs. Abhishek Sharma’s part-time spin and India’s fielding were not at their best, but the Dutch managed to make the contest tighter by batting till the last over.

Ultimately, India won by 17 runs, but the match was a testament to the Dutch team’s determination. Even though they exited the World Cup, their fight against the world champions will be remembered as a proud performance for captain Scott Edwards and his squad. India’s unbeaten streak continues, but this match served as a reminder that no team should be underestimated, regardless of rankings or form.
