‘Hard to Adapt Without Seniors’ — Gambhir Finally Recognises Rohit-Kohli-Ashwin Impact

After taking over, Gambhir wanted to end the star culture in Indian cricket

Udaipur, Nov 27, 2025: The lack of experienced players cannot be replaced overnight. Gautam Gambhir has finally accepted this reality of cricket. After the whitewash against South Africa, the India head coach admitted that young players with only 10–15 matches cannot perform like seniors such as Ashwin, who has played 100 Tests.

First it was Ravichandran Ashwin, then Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Within one year of Gambhir becoming the coach, all three senior stars announced their retirement. Their retirements were sudden and unexpected. Many in Indian cricket believe there was an invisible push behind the decisions of these three superstars.

After taking over, Gambhir wanted to end the star culture in Indian cricket. He also made several experiments in the name of promoting young players. Now, Team India is facing the results of those decisions.

Gambhir Calls for Patience as India Faces Transition Phase

Team India had already suffered a setback at home against New Zealand. Now, they have lost to South Africa as well. They also lost the series against Australia. After these consecutive defeats, head coach Gautam Gambhir has understood the importance of senior cricketers.

Gambhir says the Indian team is going through a major transition, and players will need more time. He explained, “It is difficult to adapt after losing so many experienced cricketers at once. This period is a transition. New players must be given time to adjust.”

He added, “I don’t think we have ever seen a complete change in both batting and bowling at the same time. Either batting looks stable or bowling does, but this team is starting from the beginning. So, they need time.”
