July 29, 2026: India's injury concerns continue ahead of the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has still named a strong 15-member squad for the tour. The biggest talking point is the inclusion of premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who is currently recovering from a knee injury. While Bumrah has been selected, his participation will depend on clearing the BCCI's fitness assessment before the series begins.
India have also received a major boost with the return of experienced all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who has recovered from injury and is back in the Test squad. Young spinner Saransh Jain has earned his maiden call-up after consistent performances in domestic cricket. However, all-rounders Nitish Kumar Reddy and Harshit Rana have missed out because of injury concerns.
The two-match Test series will begin on August 15 at the Galle International Cricket Stadium, with the second and final Test scheduled to be played at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) Cricket Ground in Colombo from August 23. Bumrah, Jadeja Return; Saransh Jain Earns Maiden Test Call-up
Before the squad announcement, most of the discussion among fans centred around Jasprit Bumrah's fitness. The pace spearhead missed the final Test against England after suffering a left knee injury, despite it being the series-deciding match. His recovery has been closely monitored by the BCCI, making his availability one of the biggest selection topics ahead of the Sri Lanka tour.
According to reports, there are still around three weeks before the first Test gets underway, giving Bumrah enough time to complete his rehabilitation. Board officials remain optimistic about his recovery, but the fast bowler will still have to pass the mandatory fitness test before he is cleared to play. Young batter Sai Sudharsan is also expected to undergo a fitness assessment before the start of the series.
Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja's return comes as a huge positive for India. The experienced all-rounder has been out of action since the ODI series against New Zealand earlier this year. His experience with both bat and ball could prove crucial on Sri Lanka's spin-friendly pitches, where he is expected to play a key role alongside Kuldeep Yadav and Manav Suthar.
Another major highlight of the squad is the inclusion of Saransh Jain. The Madhya Pradesh spinner has been rewarded for his impressive performances in domestic cricket, where he has claimed 131 wickets.
