India wrapped up a comprehensive ODI series victory over Afghanistan with a nine-wicket win in Chennai. Prasidh Krishna starred with his maiden ODI five-for before Yashasvi Jaiswal's unbeaten century guided India home in style.
June 21, 2026: India continued their impressive run in white-ball cricket with a commanding nine-wicket victory over Afghanistan in the third and final ODI at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Delivering a clinical performance with both bat and ball, the hosts outclassed Afghanistan once again to seal a comprehensive series win.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Afghanistan endured a disastrous start as Indiaβs pace attack dismantled their top order. The visitors were reduced to 36/4 inside the powerplay, with Prasidh Krishna leading the charge through an exceptional opening spell.
Shahidi's Century Rescues Afghanistan After Top-Order Collapse
With Afghanistan reeling early, captain Hashmatullah Shahidi and all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai steadied the innings through a crucial 105-run partnership. The duo absorbed the pressure and gradually rebuilt the innings, giving the visitors a fighting chance.
Omarzai brought up a well-compiled half-century before departing for 50, while Shahidi continued to anchor the innings brilliantly. The left-hander showcased immense resilience and went on to score a magnificent 102, registering one of the few bright spots for Afghanistan in the series.
However, once the partnership was broken, Afghanistan's lower order failed to provide meaningful support. Wickets continued to tumble at regular intervals as the visitors were eventually bowled out for 218.

Prasidh Krishna capped off a memorable outing by dismissing Shahidi and completing his maiden five-wicket haul in ODI cricket. His devastating spell with the new ball laid the foundation for India's dominance and effectively took the game away from Afghanistan.
Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal Make Light Work of the Chase
Chasing a modest target of 219, India's opening pair ensured there would be no drama in the run chase. Rohit Sharma, who had endured a relatively quiet series by his standards, responded in emphatic fashion with a fluent 79-run knock.
At the other end, Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his remarkable rise in international cricket. The young opener played an aggressive yet controlled innings, smashing an unbeaten 110 off just 86 deliveries. It was his second ODI century and another statement performance from one of India's brightest young talents.
Jaiswal fittingly sealed the victory with a towering six as India reached the target with ease. Shreyas Iyer also chipped in with an unbeaten 20 after coming in at No. 3.
Prasidh and Gill Earn Individual Honours
For his match-winning spell, Prasidh Krishna was named Player of the Match. The Karnataka pacer finished with his maiden ODI five-for and played a pivotal role in restricting Afghanistan to a below-par total.
Meanwhile, captain Shubman Gill was awarded the Player of the Series after accumulating 238 runs in just two innings. The young skipper also celebrated his first ODI series triumph as India's captain, marking another milestone in his rapidly developing leadership journey.
India's comprehensive victory highlighted the depth and balance within the squad, while Afghanistan were left searching for answers after a difficult series in which they struggled to challenge the hosts consistently across all departments.
