Udaipur, Oct 24, 2025: Shubman Gill drew his first series as a Test captain, but his ODI captaincy started in a disappointing way. India lost the series in Ajibhumon with one match still left to play. Like in Perth, the Men in Blue also struggled in Adelaide. Batting first, India scored 264 runs, but Australia easily chased the target.

On Thursday, Captain Shubman Gill lost the toss again — for the 17th time in a row. Team India had to bat first. The Adelaide pitch is usually good for batting, but due to heavy rain in the last two days, it became wet and difficult. This helped Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood, who bowled very well in such conditions.

Rohit Sharma tried to play carefully at the start, but Captain Gill was out for only 9 runs while trying to attack. Virat Kohli failed again — after scoring zero in Perth, he got another duck in Adelaide.

India’s Fightback Falls Short in Adelaide

Shreyas Iyer, who batted with Rohit Sharma, gave India a strong start. The Hitman played a fighting innings of 73 runs off 97 balls, while Shreyas Iyer added 61 runs off 77 balls. Axar Patel also made a useful 44 runs at number five. Later, Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh fought hard, adding 37 runs for the ninth wicket. In the end, India was bowled out for 264 runs.

Australia had a slow start while chasing. Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head got out early, with the score at only 54 runs. But Matthew Short turned the game around with a fine innings of 74 runs. After that, Matt Renshaw and Cooper Connolly played steady knocks to take Australia home.

Australia won the second ODI and sealed the series with one match still to play. The last match will be held in Sydney on Saturday. All eyes will be on Virat Kohli, as fans hope to see him return to form.
