July 27, 2026: India signed off their Zimbabwe tour in style by defeating the hosts by 35 runs in the third and final T20I at the Harare Sports Club on Sunday. The victory completed a dominant 3-0 series sweep and helped Team India regain the No. 1 spot in the ICC T20I rankings after slipping down the standings following back-to-back series defeats earlier this year. It was also a significant milestone for captain Shreyas Iyer, who registered his first T20I series victory as skipper after a difficult start to his leadership journey. The triumph also marked India's first series win under VVS Laxman's guidance after enduring two disappointing series under Gautam Gambhir.
India produced impressive performances throughout the series, with several young players making their mark. Teenager Vaibhav Sooryavanshi emerged as the biggest star with the bat, while Ishan Kishan provided valuable support in the middle order. On the bowling front, Mayank Yadav made a memorable return to international cricket after a lengthy injury lay-off. The express pacer consistently troubled Zimbabwe's batters with his pace and accuracy, giving India another exciting fast-bowling option.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Mayank Yadav Lead India's Dominant Performance
Winning the toss, Shreyas Iyer chose to bat first, and India's batters made full use of the conditions. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi played another outstanding innings, scoring 81 runs from just 49 balls with a mix of elegant stroke play and fearless hitting. The young left-hander struck eight fours and four sixes, once again proving why he is regarded as one of India's brightest batting prospects.
Ishan Kishan continued his fine form by contributing a useful 29 runs, while captain Shreyas Iyer added 27. The middle order kept the scoreboard moving before Rinku Singh provided the finishing touch with a quick unbeaten 25 off only 14 deliveries. Tilak Varma remained unbeaten on 11 as India finished with a challenging total of 192/5 in their 20 overs.
Zimbabwe needed a strong start to chase 193, but Mayank Yadav struck immediately. Bowling at close to 147 kmph, he dismissed opener Brian Bennett with the very first ball of the innings as the batter edged the delivery to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi at slip. Remarkably, it was the second time in the same series that Mayank had taken a wicket with the opening ball of the innings, underlining his ability to make an instant impact.
Zimbabwe's top order struggled badly under pressure. Three wickets fell inside the powerplay, leaving the hosts with a mountain to climb. Ryan Burl fought back with an unbeaten 54 and tried to rebuild the innings, but he received little support from the other batters. The required run rate continued to climb, and Zimbabwe eventually finished on 157/7, falling 35 runs short of the target.
Mayank Yadav was India's standout bowler with figures of 3/29 in four overs. Yash Thakur provided excellent support by claiming two wickets, while Ashok Sharma and Ravi Bishnoi chipped in with one wicket each. Although India could not bowl Zimbabwe out, the disciplined bowling performance ensured there was never any real danger to their victory.
