India, Nov 8, 2025: The fifth and final T20 match between India and Australia at the Gabba Stadium in Brisbane was washed out due to rain. India, who led the series 2-1 after their victory in the fourth T20, took home the series. Stopped play when the Indian team was on a rampage, having scored 52 of 4.5 overs. As play was halted, Abhishek was batting at 23 off 13 balls and Shubman was at 29 off 16 balls. Abhishek Sharma was awarded Player of the Series.

Earlier, India’s captain Suryakumar Yadav and Australia’s captain Mitchell Marsh came out for the toss. Australia won the toss and chose to bowl first, inviting India to bat.

Abhishek and Gill’s Steady Start

Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill opened the innings for India. The pair gave the team a solid start, scoring 45 runs without losing a wicket in 4.5 overs. However, the match was stopped at 2:16 pm (Indian time) due to bad weather and lightning.

It became unsafe for the spectators sitting in the open areas of the stadium, so they were moved to safer places. Soon after, heavy rain started, and the ground was covered. When play was stopped, Abhishek was batting on 23 runs, and Gill was on 29 runs.

A Major Change in Team India

Before the match, the Indian cricket team made a big change in their playing XI. Captain Suryakumar Yadav dropped birthday boy Tilak Verma and brought in explosive left-handed batsman Rinku Singh. Meanwhile, the Australian team kept their lineup unchanged for the final match.

What the Captains Said at the Toss

Australia’s captain Mitchell Marsh said, “We will bowl first. The pitch looks good. It’s always great to play here in this beautiful stadium. This is a good chance to draw the series. Both teams have played really good cricket. The pitch is a bit different tonight. India bowled very well in the last game. The conditions are different, and we are not making any changes to our team.”

India’s captain Suryakumar Yadav said, “As long as you are winning matches, losing the toss is fine. We want to go out and express ourselves. All the batsmen understood that this was not a 200-run wicket. We ticked all the boxes in the last game and want to continue that form. It’s always nice to win a bilateral series. We have rested Tilak and brought Rinku into the team.”
