Mumbai, Nov 02: The 2025 ICC ODI Women's World Cup witnessed a new team taking the trophy. After 7 times champions Australia were shown the door by the Indian girls in the semi final, the final game culminated in victory for the Indians. India beat South Africa by 52 runs. Shafali Verma took the Player of the Match award for her 87 runs and two wickets.
Indian Innings
India set up a competitive score of 298 for the South Africans to chase. The score was not at par with the earlier scores at the DY Patil stadium in Navi Mumbai, and India would have hoped to put up a score near 350 after being sent in to bat first by the South Africans. The India opening pair put up a formidable opening partnership of 104, before Smriti Mandhana departed at 45 off 58 balls. She was followed her opening partner Shefali who scored 87 off 78 balls. India kept losing wickets at different intervals, but Deepti Sharma held together the innings and 6th wicked partnership witnessed a cameo from Richa Ghosh, who scored 34 off 24 before returning to the pavillion.

South Africa
The opening pair of the South African girls once again established a decent partnership, when Brits departed when the score reached 51. Opener Laura Wolvaardt continued her form from the semis against England, well into the finals, scoring another century. Laura lost her partners one by one in short intervals after Brits departed.Bosch was run-out without scoring, followed by Luus after a partnership of 52, when the score was 114. The fourth wicket fell at 123 and the fifth at 148. There on, Dercksen firmly supported Wolvaardt in a bid to get the South Africans home. Wolvaardt, after scoring her century aired a shot off Deepti in the 42nd over and Amanjot held on to the catch, dismissing the South African captain, getting India back into the game. India finally sealed victory in the 45th over.
