February 23, 2026: South Africa beat defending champions India by 76 runs in their Super Eights match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. India had won 12 matches in a row in T20 World Cups before this game, but that strong run ended here. Around 82,000 fans came to support India, but they were left disappointed. The loss also hurt India’s net run rate.

South Africa handled Varun Chakravarthy well and scored 187 for 7 in 20 overs. Later, their bowlers followed their plans and bowled India out for 111 in 18.5 overs. Corbin Bosch and Marco Jansen took early wickets. Keshav Maharaj then took three wickets in the 15th over to end India’s hopes.

Miller and Bowlers Lead the Way

David Miller scored 63 runs from 35 balls. Dewald Brevis made 45 from 29 balls. They added 97 runs for the fourth wicket after Jasprit Bumrah had reduced South Africa to 20 for 3 early in the innings. Miller hit seven fours and three sixes, while Brevis also played attacking shots. India gave away extra runs through no-balls and wides.

Bumrah finished with three wickets and bowled very well at the end. Arshdeep Singh also took two wickets. But Tristan Stubbs scored 44 not out and hit two sixes in the final over bowled by Hardik Pandya, which helped South Africa finish strong.

India’s chase started badly. Ishan Kishan got out early. Abhishek Sharma hit a few good shots but was dismissed for 15. Tilak Varma also fell quickly, and India were 31 for 3 in six overs.

Washington Sundar hit a six, but did not stay long. Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube tried to rebuild the innings. However, wickets kept falling. At the halfway stage, India were 57 for 5 and needed 102 runs from 36 balls.

In the 15th over, Keshav Maharaj took three wickets as Hardik Pandya, Rinku Singh, and Arshdeep Singh were caught near the boundary. Tristan Stubbs took the catches. Shivam Dube scored 42 runs, but it was not enough. Many fans left the stadium before the match ended as South Africa sealed a big win.
