Akashdeep Shares Lessons from Rohit & Virat, Opens Up on Sister’s Inspiring Fight Against Cancer

Udaipur, Aug 8 2025: Indian team’s young fast bowler Akashdeep dedicated India’s win in the Edgbaston Test match to his elder sister, who is fighting cancer. Remembering the win, Akashdeep said that winning on a ground where India had never won a Test before was a big achievement for him. He said, “I want to see my sister happy because she supported me in tough times and always inspired me to do better. That is why I dedicated this win to her.”

Learned from Rohit and Virat

He described former captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as his role models and said that it is every player’s dream to reach the level they are at today.

Akashdeep said, “I learned a lot from them while being in the team. Discipline and punctuality are very important for a player, and I learned this from them.” When asked about the difference between Rohit and Virat’s captaincy, Akashdeep said that every captain has his own style and strategy. Praising Shubman Gill’s captaincy, he said that Gill is a talented player who led his team to victory even in tough situations, which is inspiring for young players.

Akashdeep’s journey from Dehri, Sasaram in Bihar to the Indian team has been full of struggles. He said that in his childhood, there was no platform for cricket in his area, and neighbors even advised his family to keep him away from the sport.

Akashdeep, who made his T20 debut for Bengal in 2019, said, “My father wanted me to do a government job, but destiny decided something else.”
