The 8-Day West Zone and Inter Zonal Inter-University Men and Women Badminton Tournament commenced here at the Mohanlal Sukhadia University today, 10^th January.

The inaugural ceremony of the tournament conducted at the MLSU campus was chaired by Raghuveer Singh Meena, Member of Legislative Assembly.

Deependra Singh Chouhan secretary MLSU sports Board informed UT that 47 universities from all west zonal states (Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Goa) are participating in the tournament.

Some of the Universities which are here in Udaipur to participate in the competition are Banasthali V.P University, Rajasthan; DAV University, Indore; Dr. H.S. Gaur University, Sagar, Madhya Pradesh; Gujarat University, Ahmedabad; Vikram University, Gwalior; RDV University, Jabalpur; BITS Pilani, Rajasthan; Gujarat Techno University, Ahmedabad; etc.

While the women’s competition is underway at the MLSU campus, the men’s matches are taking place at Luv Kush Stadium. The 4 final teams of the West Zone that will be selected on 13^th January, will represent their zone in the All India Inter Zonal Tournament.

This tournament is being conducted under the auspices of the Mohanlal Sukhadia University Sports Board. This is as per the directives of the Sports Board, New Delhi, where distinct Universities are allotted separate sports tournament that need to be conducted each year. The previous year, 2011, MLSU hosted the Boxing Championship for West Zone Universities.
