May 27, 2025 - Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7, 2025, to eliminate terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The attack targeted terrorists linked to groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen. Operation Sindoor was launched in response to a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam in April 2025, where 26 innocent people lost their lives. The Indian Air Force retaliated strongly until a ceasefire was announced on May 10.

Now, the success of Operation Sindoor will be celebrated during the IPL 2025 closing ceremony. 

Celebration of Operation Sindoor

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has planned a special tribute to the Indian Armed Forces during the closing ceremony of IPL 2025. This ceremony will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on June 3, just before the final match of the tournament.

Top Military Officials Invited

BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia told a media outlet that BCCI has invited the Chief of Defence Staff along with the chiefs of the Army, Navy and Air Force to attend the event.

Tribute to the Armed Forces

Saikia said, “The Board salutes the bravery, courage and selfless service of our Armed Forces. Their heroic efforts under Operation Sindoor continue to protect and inspire the country. As a tribute, we have decided to dedicate the IPL 2025 closing ceremony to the Armed Forces.”

IPL 2025 Schedule Changes

Owing to rising tensions between India and Pakistan, the IPL 2025 was paused for a week. The tournament resumed on May 17. Earlier, the final was scheduled for Kolkata on May 25 but it was rescheduled to June 3 and moved to Ahmedabad. The playoffs will now begin on May 29 with Mullanpur stadium in Mohali hosting the first qualifier and eliminator.
