Udaipur, May 10, 2025: The IPL has been postponed due to the ongoing war between India and Pakistan, a BCCI source confirmed to The Times of India on Friday. On Thursday, Pakistan launched missile attacks on several border areas, including Jammu in India. Due to the air raid alert, the stadium lights in Dharamsala were switched off, and the match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was cancelled. The Dharamsala stadium is less than 100 km from Pathankot, where an air raid alert was issued following the missile strike. According to The Times of India, the BCCI has decided to postpone the IPL for now.

IPL Postponed Indefinitely Due to India-Pakistan War

A BCCI source told The Times of India, “We have decided to postpone the IPL indefinitely. The safety of the players is our top priority. That is why we have decided to stop the tournament for now. We will decide later whether the tournament can restart, and if so, when. Right now, national interest is most important to us.”

Formal Announcement Coming Soon

According to ESPNcricinfo, the BCCI will soon make a formal announcement regarding the IPL continuing. IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal, BCCI Secretary Debjit Saikia, and other officials made this decision after a telephonic meeting. All franchise teams have been informed. The teams have started releasing players and support staff, and they will leave India on the next available flight.

Dharamsala Match Cancelled Midway

The match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala was called off during the first innings. Following missile attacks, airports in Dharamsala and nearby areas were closed.

Players Shifted in Secrecy

Fear Among Players, Especially Foreigners

A player told the Indian Express that there was “fear” among both teams. Foreign players were especially concerned about their safety. The Sydney Morning Herald reported that Australian players are ready to return home due to safety issues.

Teams Plan to Return Home

The Times of India reported that many foreign players from different franchises are worried about their safety. Royal Challengers Bangalore, who were to play in Lucknow today, have also shown interest in returning home. Mumbai Indians, who reached Ahmedabad last night, are also preparing to leave. Gujarat Titans, based in Delhi, have not announced their travel plans yet.

Matches Played So Far and Remaining Schedule

Including the cancelled match in Dharamsala, 58 matches have been played in this IPL season. There are still 12 league matches left. Two were to be held in Lucknow and Bengaluru, three in Ahmedabad, and one each in Hyderabad, Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, and Jaipur. Two playoff matches were scheduled in Hyderabad, one in Eden Gardens, and the final was also to be held at Eden Gardens.
