May 20, 2025 - Lucknow had to face defeat against Hyderabad, which has knocked the Lucknow Super Giants out of the IPL 2025 playoff race. Now, the fight for the fourth spot is between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Mumbai Indians (MI). The big match between Delhi and Mumbai (DC vs MI, IPL 2025) will be played on  May 21. This match is very important for both teams. Whichever team wins will move ahead in the playoff race.

MI’s Path to Playoffs

If MI defeats DC, they will qualify for the IPL playoffs. After beating Delhi, Mumbai will have 16 points and secure their spot. Mumbai has two matches left, and if they win both, they will easily reach the playoffs. On the other hand, if Delhi loses to Mumbai, their chances will be over. Even if Delhi wins their last match against Punjab, they can only reach a maximum of 15 points. In that case, Mumbai will qualify by having more points.

How DC Can Reach the Playoffs

The easiest way for DC to qualify is by beating Mumbai in their match. This will give Delhi 15 points. Then, if Delhi also wins against Punjab, Mumbai will be out of the playoffs. Delhi will qualify with 17 points in this case. But if Delhi beats Mumbai but loses to Punjab, Mumbai can still qualify with 16 points. Even if Delhi wins their last match, they may fail to qualify depending on Mumbai’s results. The final fourth team will be decided by May 26.
