May 9, 2025: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has suspended for one week the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 matches in view of the escalating military tensions between India and Pakistan. BCCI honorary secretary Devajit Saikia has said that, “The Board of Control for Cricket in India has decided to suspend the remainder of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 with immediate effect for one week.”

"While cricket remains a national passion, there is nothing greater than the Nation and its sovereignty, integrity, and security of our country. The BCCI remains firmly committed to support all efforts that safeguard India and will always align its decisions in the best interest of the nation," a statement from BCCI read.

The BCCI held an important meeting regarding the IPL games in view of the current situation. The online meeting included team management and all major stakeholders. No new dates have been announced yet. BCCI has said that the new schedules and venues will be announced later.

There are still 12 league matches and four playoff matches are remaining.

Yesterday, May 8, at around 8:30 pm, Pakistan had launched missile and drone attacks on India’s borders in Jammu, Punjab and Rajasthan. At the time, a match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was underway in Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh.

Punjab, batting first, had scored 122 runs for the loss of 1 wicket in 10.1 overs when the stadium floodlights were suddenly turned off and spectators were asked to leave. The match had to be abandoned owing to air raid alerts in nearby Jammu and Pathankot.

Owing to the war-like situation, a blackout was enforced in the city and the match was cancelled. This was the 58th match of the league stage.

The PBKS and DC players were taken to Delhi via a special train arranged by BCCI as the local airport is closed down.
