April 22, 2026: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Mithun Manhas on Wednesday paid tribute to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack, marking one year since the tragic incident. Remembering those who lost their lives, he expressed his condolences and extended his prayers to the families who are still dealing with the pain of losing their loved ones.

In a message shared on X, Manhas said, “One year since the horrific terrorist attack on Hindus at Pahalgam. May Lord Shiva give strength to those who are still battling the loss of their loved ones.” His statement reflected a sense of remembrance and highlighted the emotional impact the incident continues to have, even a year later.

Attack and Its Aftermath

The Pahalgam terror attack took place on April 22, 2025, when 26 people were killed in a brutal and targeted assault on tourists. The attack was carried out by The Resistance Front, which is considered an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba. According to reports, the attackers identified victims based on their religion, forcing them to recite the Islamic ‘kalima’ to distinguish non-Muslims before targeting them. Among those killed were 25 tourists and one local pony-ride operator who reportedly tried to protect the visitors.

Several of the victims were newly married couples, and many were shot at close range in front of their families, making the attack even more distressing. The incident drew strong reactions across the country and led to a swift response from Indian armed forces.

In response, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 6 and 7. Officials described the operation as focused, measured, and non-escalatory, targeting key terror bases located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The objective was to dismantle infrastructure linked to militant activities while avoiding further escalation.

Following the operation, tensions between the two countries increased. Pakistan responded with drone activity and cross-border shelling over the next several days, reportedly targeting civilian areas, religious sites, and schools. India, in turn, carried out retaliatory strikes, including actions against radar installations in Lahore and facilities near Gujranwala.

As the situation escalated, Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations eventually contacted his Indian counterpart, requesting a halt to military actions. This communication led to a ceasefire understanding between the two sides on May 10, 2025, bringing a temporary pause to the hostilities.

Even a year later, the Pahalgam attack remains a painful memory, and tributes like these continue to honour the victims while reminding people of the need for peace and security.
