May 08, 2026: Kolkata Knight Riders produced a dominant all-round performance to register a comfortable victory over Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in IPL 2026. Led brilliantly by Ajinkya Rahane, KKR outclassed the hosts in every department and sealed the match with 34 balls to spare. Rahane’s decision to bowl first after winning the toss proved to be the turning point, as the surface became increasingly difficult for batting during the first innings.

Delhi Capitals struggled to assess the nature of the pitch and paid the price throughout their innings. Sri Lanka opener Pathum Nissanka was the lone bright spot for the hosts, showcasing his experience on slower surfaces with a well-compiled half-century. KL Rahul looked steady during his brief stay at the crease and added 23 runs, but failed to convert his start into a substantial innings.

The middle order once again disappointed for Delhi, with six batters falling for single-digit scores. At one stage, the hosts looked in danger of collapsing for a very low total before Ashutosh Sharma’s fighting knock of 39 provided some resistance and helped them reach 142/8 in 20 overs. KKR’s bowling attack maintained relentless pressure through the middle overs, with Sunil Narine, Anukul Roy, and Varun Chakaravarthy controlling the game superbly. Kartik Tyagi also delivered an impressive spell and chipped in with crucial wickets.

Finn Allen Powers KKR to a Dominant Chase

Chasing a modest target, KKR suffered an early setback when captain Ajinkya Rahane was run out for 13, while Angkrish Raghuvanshi departed cheaply soon after. However, Finn Allen completely changed the momentum of the game with a sensational counterattack.

The New Zealand batter began cautiously to understand the conditions before unleashing a fearless assault on the Delhi bowlers. Allen smashed boundaries all around the ground and brought up his maiden IPL century in just 47 deliveries. He eventually remained unbeaten on 100, finishing the innings in style with a towering six. During his explosive knock, Allen hammered nine sixes and five fours, single-handedly dismantling the Delhi bowling attack.

Cameron Green played the perfect supporting role at the other end. Recognising the difficulty of the surface, the Australian all-rounder avoided unnecessary risks and rotated the strike intelligently while remaining unbeaten on 32. His composed innings complemented Allen’s aggression perfectly and ensured there were no further hiccups in the chase.

Earlier, Pathum Nissanka top-scored for Delhi Capitals with a quickfire 50 off 29 balls, while Ashutosh Sharma added valuable runs lower down the order. For KKR, Anukul Roy and Kartik Tyagi claimed two wickets each, while Sunil Narine and Cameron Green also contributed with the ball.

The emphatic victory provided a significant boost to Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2026 points table, while Delhi Capitals were left searching for answers after another disappointing batting display at home.
