April 08, 2026: Jos Buttler smashed Mukesh Kumar for 23 runs in one over and made a strong comeback in the match against Delhi Capitals. After the early wicket of Sudharsan, Buttler took control of the innings and played attacking cricket. He hit several big shots and helped Gujarat Titans take the lead. This was also his first half-century of IPL 2026, which put his team in a strong position.

Buttler started his innings in a steady way but soon became very aggressive. Axar Patel gave the ball to Mukesh Kumar in the powerplay, but the plan did not work. Buttler hit a scoop over fine leg for a six and then smashed another ball into the stands. He continued to attack and scored 23 runs in that over. He quickly reached 42 runs off just 16 balls and dominated the partnership with captain Shubman Gill.

Buttler Turns the Game with One Explosive Over

In that over, Buttler played a range of attacking shots. On the first ball, he hit a six behind the wicketkeeper. On the second ball, he smashed another six down the ground. The third ball went for a four towards mid-wicket. The fourth ball was a dot. On the fifth ball, he hit another six over the covers. On the last ball, he took a single to keep the strike. This over changed the game and gave the Gujarat Titans full control.

Mukesh Kumar had a very tough time as he could not control his bowling. Buttler punished every loose ball and kept the pressure on. His strong batting made it hard for the bowler and shifted the momentum in his team’s favour.

Buttler had not been in good form before this match. This was his first fifty in his last 17 innings, and he reached it in just 24 balls. He hit five sixes in the powerplay, which is one of the highest by a non-opener in IPL history. Only Suresh Raina has hit more, with six sixes in the powerplay against Punjab Kings in 2014. This innings showed that Buttler is back in form and can be very dangerous for any team.
