Punjab Kings Script T20 History with Record 265 Chase, Rahul’s 152 Goes in Vain
Punjab Kings script history by chasing 265 against Delhi Capitals in IPL 2026. KL Rahul’s stunning 152 goes in vain as PBKS register the highest successful chase in T20 cricket.
April 26, 2026: Punjab Kings delivered a historic performance in IPL 2026, pulling off the highest successful run chase in T20 cricket with a stunning six-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Chasing a daunting target of 265, Punjab Kings reached the total with seven balls to spare, surpassing their own previous record of 262 against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024.
Delhi Capitals had earlier set a formidable total of 264, the seventh-highest in IPL history, powered by a sensational unbeaten 152 off 67 balls from KL Rahul. In doing so, Rahul became the first Indian to score 150 or more in the IPL. He found strong support in Nitish Rana, who scored 91, as the pair stitched together a remarkable 220-run partnership—the second-highest for any wicket in IPL history. Despite such dominance with the bat, Delhi’s total ultimately proved insufficient.

Record-Breaking Chase Powers Punjab Kings to Glory
Punjab Kings began their pursuit in emphatic fashion, with openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh launching a blistering assault. Priyansh set the tone with a six off the very first ball, and the duo raced to 116/0 in the powerplay—the highest powerplay score of the IPL 2026 season. Their explosive 126-run stand in just 6.5 overs put the chase firmly within reach.
After both openers departed in quick succession, Punjab briefly lost momentum, slipping to 145/3. However, captain Shreyas Iyer anchored the innings with composure and authority. He built a crucial 56-run partnership with Nehal Wadhera, keeping the chase on track.
Iyer led from the front with an unbeaten 71 off 36 balls, capitalizing on chances offered in the field and guiding his side home in 19 overs. In what turned out to be a run-fest of extraordinary proportions, KL Rahul’s record-breaking knock was overshadowed by Punjab Kings’ remarkable chase, marking yet another milestone in T20 cricket history.
