Kohli Scripts IPL History as RCB Crush DC by 9 Wickets in Delhi
Virat Kohli becomes the first player to score 9000 IPL runs as RCB dominate DC with a 9-wicket win in IPL 2026. Bhuvneshwar and Hazlewood shine.
April 28, 2026: Royal Challengers Bengaluru icon Virat Kohli added another landmark achievement to his legendary IPL career, becoming the first player in tournament history to surpass 9000 runs. The milestone came during RCB’s emphatic clash against the Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Monday, April 27.
Kohli required just 11 runs to reach the landmark and achieved it comfortably in the second innings after RCB had dismantled DC for a mere 75 runs. He reached the milestone in the sixth over, taking a single off Axar Patel by driving the ball to long-off, prompting a loud cheer from the crowd as he etched his name deeper into IPL history.
Earlier in the match, RCB’s bowlers produced a devastating performance, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood leading the charge. The duo tore through Delhi’s batting lineup, restricting them to 75 all out in just 16.3 overs. Their disciplined swing bowling left DC reeling from the outset, with wickets falling at regular intervals.
Chasing a modest target, RCB made light work of the total. Jacob Bethell, replacing the injured Phil Salt, provided early momentum with a quickfire 20 off 11 balls before being dismissed by a brilliant catch from T Natarajan. However, Devdutt Padikkal and Virat Kohli ensured there were no further hiccups as they dismantled the chase with authority. Padikkal struck a blistering 34 off 13 deliveries, while Kohli added an unbeaten 23 off 15 balls, including two sixes that sealed the match with 81 balls to spare.
Kohli’s Milestone Highlights Dominant RCB Display
Kohli’s 9000-run milestone added historic significance to an already one-sided encounter. The former RCB captain became the first batter in IPL history to reach the landmark, further extending his dominance in the league. He now leads the all-time IPL run charts ahead of other prolific scorers such as Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan. In the process, RCB not only secured a commanding nine-wicket victory but also reinforced their strong form in IPL 2026, with a complete performance that underlined their dominance in both departments.

Delhi Capitals’ Social Media Reaction Goes Viral
In a rare moment of self-reflection, the Delhi Capitals took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to share a humorous, self-deprecating meme following their collapse. The post referenced a popular 2016 demonetization-era image, symbolising chaos and frustration, which quickly went viral among fans.
The meme depicted the overwhelming situation faced by the team after they were reduced to 8/6 early in their innings, capturing the scale of their batting collapse in a light-hearted manner. Despite the heavy defeat, DC’s attempt at humour resonated with fans, turning a difficult night into a relatable social media moment amid one of their toughest performances of the season.
