April 08, 2026: Heavy rain delayed the start of the IPL 2026 match between Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians at Barasapara Stadium by almost three hours. When play finally began under the revised conditions, each team had only 11 overs to bat, with a 3.2-over powerplay. MI skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to field first, giving RR the chance to set a target.

RR’s Openers Dominate from the Start

Rajasthan Royals’ openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi started aggressively. They raced past 50 runs in just 2.4 overs, with Sooryavanshi hitting two sixes off Jasprit Bumrah in their highly anticipated face-off. Sooryavanshi was eventually dismissed for 39 off 14 balls, ending the 80-run opening stand. Jaiswal carried the innings, scoring an unbeaten 77 off 32 balls, while skipper Riyan Parag added a quick 20 off 10 balls. RR finished their innings at 150/3, hitting a six on the final ball.

Mumbai Indians Struggle in Chase

Mumbai Indians began their chase needing a fast start but lost early wickets. Ryan Rickelton and Suryakumar Yadav were dismissed cheaply by Jofra Archer and Nandre Burger. Rohit Sharma also failed to make an impact, trapped by Sandeep Sharma. Even Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma could not steady the innings.

Naman Dhir (25 off 13) and Sherfane Rutherford (25 off 8) tried to revive MI’s chase, adding 47 runs together, but once their partnership ended, the match was effectively over. RR’s bowlers shared the wickets well, with all five bowlers picking at least one, and three of them taking two each. MI finished at 123/9 in 11 overs, falling short of the 151-run target.

With this third consecutive win, Rajasthan Royals climbed to the top of the IPL 2026 points table, showing a strong batting and bowling performance in challenging, rain-affected conditions. Fans celebrated Jaiswal’s brilliant innings and the aggressive approach of RR’s young players, while MI’s early wickets highlighted their struggles in the shortened format.
