Wasim Jaffer questions Cameron Green not bowling in IPL 2026, calling it unfair as workload rules limit his all-round role for the team.

April 03, 2026: Former India batter Wasim Jaffer has created a strong debate in the IPL after questioning why Cameron Green has not bowled a single over for his team in IPL 2026. Sharing his views on X (formerly Twitter), Jaffer called the situation “unfair” and pointed out that franchises invest huge money in players for their all-round skills. According to him, if a player is picked as an all-rounder, both batting and bowling abilities should be used properly during the tournament.

Green was bought for a massive ₹25.20 crore in the IPL auction and was expected to play an important all-round role for his team. However, in the opening game against the Mumbai Indians, he did not bowl at all. This became a major talking point, especially after the team conceded 221 runs in the match. Many fans and experts questioned whether not using Green as a bowler affected the team’s balance and overall performance.

Jaffer also raised a bigger issue about the role of national teams in franchise leagues. He said that once players are part of a private league like the IPL, it should not be the national board deciding how they are used. He added that it is unfair for franchises that spend big amounts expecting full contribution from players with multiple skills. His comments started a wider discussion among fans and experts about player roles and team strategies.

Workload Management and Team Strategy in Focus

After the match, Ajinkya Rahane spoke about the situation and said that questions about Green’s bowling should be directed to Cricket Australia. The Australian board later clarified that Green’s bowling workload is being carefully managed due to a lower back issue. It was also reported that the IPL franchise was aware of this condition before the tournament began.

This has highlighted a common challenge in modern cricket, where franchises and national teams often have different priorities. While IPL teams want maximum performance from players, national boards focus on fitness and long-term availability. This creates a difficult balance, especially for all-rounders like Green, who are expected to contribute in multiple areas.

Despite not bowling in matches, Green has been seen bowling in practice sessions, which has given some hope to fans. Many believe he could return to bowling soon as part of a gradual recovery plan. As IPL 2026 continues, this issue is likely to remain in focus, with teams trying to manage player fitness while also meeting performance expectations on the field.
