The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is now close to its final stage. This year’s IPL began with the Kolkata Knight Riders vs. Royal Challengers Bangalore match on March 22, and the final will be played on the 25th of this month.
However, before reaching the final, the teams must go through the qualifiers and eliminators. To do that, they first need to secure a spot in the top four to qualify for the play-offs.
At this point, most IPL teams have already played 10 or 11 matches. So, the race for the top four is naturally heating up. Let’s take a look at what each team needs to do to stay in the race.
What Are the Rules for Reaching the Playoffs?
- After the group stage ends, the top four teams in the points table will move to the playoffs.
- The top two teams will play Qualifier 1. The winner of this match will directly reach the final.
- The teams in third and fourth place will play the Eliminator.
- The winner of the Eliminator will face the loser of Qualifier 1 in Qualifier 2.
- The winner of Qualifier 2 will go to the final and play against the winner of Qualifier 1.
